And a lot of people think of design, when they hear the word design as visual, something that looks pretty.
Design is not just visual, design is efficiency. Design is making something simple. Design is epic. Design is making it easy for a user to get from point A to point B.”-jack dorsey, cofounder of Twitter.

It takes you on a journey around the world to some of the most sprawling cities, in Chile and India for example, and shows the design with them. Starbucks started the new year off by reinventing their logo to a more minimalistic look. What's missing from the design? The company decided to strip the logo of the Starbuck's name. Take a look at the design as Howard Schultz explains the creative process:
Minimalism has been a trend for many corporate logos and packaging designs. Check out some others here.

Wear Today is a blog that has me particularly amused.
Ed Kim of Google Creative Labs has documented in a blog what he wears each day. From a design perspective, it's lovely. I especially love the snorkel gear.

Tired of the same old car ads? You know, the ones with the loud music, flashy photography, and claims of having the coolest cars?
Well, check out Subaru's campaign "Designing Mediocrity" which basically takes a reverse thinking approach to their marketing strategy. The ads poke fun at all the stereotypes of typical car ads. Check out the campaign here:

As I was rushing through the Chicago O'hare airport last week to hop on a connecting flight, something stopped me right in my tracks (literally). As I boarded the moving walkway, the entire room became dim with pink and blue mood lighting. As I looked above, to my suprise the entire ceiling was covered in a neon light art installation called "Sky's The Limit". Created by Michael Hayden, the installation consists of 466 neon light tubes that change colors in a mesmerizing display. It gave the ... Continue reading ...

Designed by SimpleScott in Chicago, this logo utilizes every design element to tell Obama's message without words. For example, his campaign slogan of "Hope" appears many times. The "O" is formed into a rising sun symbolizing a new day and hope. The "O" also looks like a rainbow, another symbol of hope. The style is a modern with a progressive Web 2.0 clean look, reiterating his slogan delivering "change". Overall, it set a new standard in branding and influenced the nation.

I love infographics. Maybe it's because I am a visual learner. Or because I am fond of graphic design, OR maybe it's because I prefer to scan a page than actually read it. Whatever the reason, watch this TED talk where Gary Flake demos Pivot, a new way to browse and arrange massive amounts of images and data online. I just downloaded it, and it's awesome.

The desert is full of suprises. Palm Springs happens to have one of the most concentrated areas of modern architecture. In fact, Feb 11-21 is Modernism Week. But I made my own "modernism day" by touring some of the most famous Modernist architecture sights in Palm Springs:
Albert Frey's Modernist Tramway Gas Station is one of the first buildings you will pass when you enter Palm Springs.
Much of the buildings were built in the 50s or 60s and have simple geometric lines.

Bringing awareness to green causes is a subject that many artists have had fun with in their recent works and installations. Below are my top 7 favorite creative expressions of environmentalism that are sure to not only make mother nature happy but inspire some much needed reduce/reuse/recycle action from viewers.
1. Nele Azevedo's "Melting Man"
Azevedo's installation in Berlin brings awareness to global warming by placing 1,000 ice sculptured men under the sun's rays. See how quickly they me... Continue reading ...
