Lytro.com is a early stage startup offering one of the biggest breakthroughs in photography: shoot first, focus later. The technology uses a "light field camera" that has a special sensor designed to capture additional data on each photo. This means you can get much more out of one photo. With one click, a blurred background can become the center focus of a picture.

Watch this "Desert Motion" video and you'll never guess that it was created from still images. The photographer took still images over Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Arizona and Arches National Park in Utah and manipulated them using Photoshop CS5 and Apple Motion to create what looks like a soaring nature video. Superb and creative.

Vincent Fournier wins for having the coolest photoshoot. The "Space Project" focuses on otherworldly art exploration with images depicting space. The images are of some of the most significant space complexes from the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah to The Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Centre in Russia photographing people in real space gear as if they were on Mars.

Depending on your artistic vision, photo blurring can be a blessing or a curse. You may actually want your photos to be "artistically blurred". In the recent ad campaigns for W Magazine, Alexander McQueen and Giorgio Armani, the photos were intentionally blurred to create a soft illusion. It is a great way for photographers to break away from the clutter of crisp and sharpened photography that we've been used to seeing.

Fashion photographer, Steven Meisel, recently exhibited a collection of 3D photographs for Italian Vogue magazine called "Scents of the Future". As its title suggests, the images are multi sensory with each photo scented with floral fragrances and displayed in 3D. The photos are featured in the September issue of the magazine, which includes a pair of 3D glasses which you'll need to view the images in their entirety.

People always ask me which digital camera to buy. Nikons to Olympus, Pixels and Zooms- it can be hard to narrow it down. Here's how you do it:
1. Figure out what you will be photographing. Is it something you'll need a long lens for, like sports? Is it travel photography?- in which case you may need a portable point and shoot. Or is it professional photography? - in which you should try a DSLR. Having a criteria in mind will help you find the best camera for you.

Most photographers are taught to throw out a pixelated image because it's considered too blurry.
But not Jörg Colberg. He uses the pixelation to add a geometric element to his photos in his latest project "American Pixels". The detail is left on the subject and the rest of the image is compressed based on an algorithm.
