I always keep my eye out for new and inspiring artists. Here, I profile a few emerging artists who happen to be from California:

Douglas Miller



I first met Douglas at the Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival, where he has been showcasing his art for over 30 years. He is one of the most prolific artists I have seen and his use of color is perfection.

Peggi Kroll



Peggi creates California beach scenes that allow you to look at everyday life with a new appreciation.

Best Use of Music in Ads (Top 9)

Sometimes music can be the glue that makes a commercial stick in your mind. From car  to drink ads, music is a popular feature in many commercials. What's interesting is that these commercials hardly showcase top 40 hits. Instead they choose more obscure "hip" bands whose songs may not have become well known (yet). That is why when you hear the song, you primarily associate it with the commercial and think of the ad. And since music is catchy, it enables these ads to be remembered many years ...

Wordle

If you like to play with your words, check our "Wordle". It is an invention from Jonathan Feinberg and the site lets you cut and paste words which automatically get organized into an artistic collage. From there, you can change the layout and colors.

It can also extract words from a link to your blog. Here's what happened when I added the link to KSD Designs:

Pixelated Images become Art

Most photographers are taught to throw out a pixelated image because it's considered too blurry.

But not Jörg Colberg. He uses the pixelation to add a geometric element to his photos in his latest project "American Pixels". The detail is left on the subject and the rest of the image is compressed based on an algorithm.

The results look pretty cool:
