Art Revolution!

Posted by Kristen on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, In : Art

Koons and Veilhan's art installation display at the Palace of Versailles in 2009.

Veilhan's purple carriage is displayed in the exterior of the Palace.

Watch as Koons himself explains his genius.

Although the thought of contemporary work in Versailles may be enough to start a revolution for some, seeing these works in a typical MOMA-like setting might not be as powerful. The clash between the modern and the historic makes for an interesting display.

Logo Symbolism

Posted by Kristen on Sunday, September 20, 2009, In : Design
How can you tell if a company is global, friendly, or fast? One way is to take a look at their logo! Hidden symbolism is common in logos to hint the motive of the company without giving it away directly. It also discusses why the font, Helvetica, has become so commonplace. Entire museum exhibits in MOMA have been dedicated to it. Which made me think about how we can compare the voices of each typeface to some of our recognizable icons. Below are a few examples:

Capturing the City

Posted by Kristen on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, In : Photography
One of my main themes throughout my artwork and photography is cities. And what better city to photograph than one of America's most iconic, New York City.

I recently viewed an exhibit of 12 photos chronicling Manhattan. Each photo not only shows off New York City's optimism, hardworking spirit, and power but also it's depth. Some of the pieces show the city in black and white with immigrants arriving and making the city their own. Others show a modern New York, highlighting the commercializat...
